The server is pretty critical only because we have been waiting for all the parts to come in for over a month. If this were the only server OS I managed by myself I couldn’t agree more with doing the research, but fact is it isn’t.īTW the other information you don’t know is that this server was just installed two days ago and was configured just before the update. There was and still is nothing saying that this update wouldn’t work for me. The fact is the Software Update opened itself and I clicked “Install”.

I’ve downloaded and installed the 10.2.8 update and found everything works nicely and I have found that some carbon applications load a bit quick, such as, Corel Painter 8, and the software that makes up Core Graphics Suite 11. One thing I am surprised about is why Apple didn’t pick it up during the testing phase, I mean, heck, it isn’t as though the loss of ethernet connectivity is an easy thing to overlook. Compare that to Microsoft when it released Windows XP SP1 and the number of people who found that their legitimate copy was classed as a “blacked listed” version, or devices simply stop working. Well, atleast Apple was willing to remove it.

I followed some instruction to downgrade only the drivers and my machine is cleanly working now … The upgrade upgrade’s the gigabit ethernet driver and the new driver does not work properly and stucks the ethernet card in gigabit mode, henec when connected to adsl modem the modem is invisible (it only speaks in 10 Mbits). Sorry for the grammer errors but hey I’m a Mac user what do you expect. Since this is a somewhat critical box I have no choice but to re-install in the morning. I have a feeling these problems are related strictly to specific PCI buses on specific G4 towers, pre-QuickSilver. In which I now hear BSD does not have issues with or that could be just the new OpenSSH-3.7.1p2-1. I also only did the update since the OpenSSH vunerability. All I heard was ethernet… ethernet… ethernet. So I go to “About This Mac” > “More Info…” and then to the “Device and Volumes” tab and get not a single PCI device showing which is odd cause you can usually plug some PC PCI devices in and they can usually be found.Īnother friend said his PCI Intel NIC no longer worked after he installed this update. I end up going into Disk Utility and it can’t find any drive from the Sonnet card as well. When I did my 250gig mirrored pair was gone… So while trying not to freak out… I re-downloaded the update combo from Apple’s website and it re-installed fine but after another reboot still no raid drive.

Since the install died and force quit did nothing I was forced to reboot. At work we run an OS X Server with a Sonnet Tempo ATA133 card (and the large drive support firmware).Īnyhow the update died (99% and then the beachball of death).
